Cleaned up a bit of the wiring in the engine bay, then took another stab at figuring out the "hesitation" between 2500-3000 RPM. Confirmed that it happens in neutral too, just like it does when actually driving down the road.
Maybe it's the timing belt tension causing it? I can definitely hear...
Barne's has some of those components, and I've been eyeing Cavfab for a spare carrier.
With your budget you should be able to get some nice upgrades, if you're doing the install yourself
Fan motor inductance need any diode to protect the BJT? What amount of current does it draw? If too much for the beta of that transistor, could look at Darlingtons or a FET
I've gotten some MG conformal coating stuff for a lot cheaper than that before, I'll have to go dig up my digikey order history and see if it might be suitable for you.
As a note of caution for using other various epoxies that aren't explicitly for electronics, some of them will emit some...
If you're not crunched for space with where you're planning to locate it, getting an enclosure with a gasket would be simpler and less permanent than fully potting it. Probably more tolerant with thermals, too. Can even get transparent options or windows for the LED visibility!
Best for that is to get someone with more experience to check it out with you and teach you how they check it out, what sounds normal and what doesn't, etc. You don't know what you don't know
Wrong page I think. That's showing the constant +12V to them. Another page should show the PCM connections to the negative of each, which will be different colors
I don't see many TJs available in scrapyards around here, but I think some XJ engines are compatible for' 97. Others will be able to chime in on that.
I do see lots of engines, sometimes still paired with transmission, for sale on FB Marketplace.
Don't send it for scrap. Even if you aren't in a place to handle the engine repair/replacement, someone else will want it. Engines can be found for relatively cheap; I got one with PCM included for 500$ last year.
