Okay, I think I'll probably be replacing it then, it seems like its folded over on itself and its slightly rubbing on the ring gear. Which I think explains the wear along the sides of the teeth. Also, what else will I need to replace it, do i need new pinion bearings, I know I'll need a new nut...

That's the kind of news I like to hear, do you think its even worth it to dive in a and replace the slinger, or does it not really matter, I'd like this axle to last decently long, but if it wont really affect performance/longevity, then I wont.

Ok, That makes so much more sense then what I was thinking, what would you do?

Also, from what I can tell the gears have no damage whatsoever, and the locker looks to be fine, I wonder if this potentially was a case of the bolts working it way out of the locker and pinging around.

UPDATE: I went down to PA to pick it up today, not exactly what I was expecting, the guy realized that the sway bar mounts had been laser cut off (not great, but not the end of the world) and that the slinger was pretty torn up (eek) but because of this he decided to just give me the whole setup...

I normally take a wire wheel to the whole frame at the start and end of winter, and get a fresh coat of paint on everything I can reach. Ill probably slap some on again soon just to touch up the parts that got scuffed up while working on it. its definitely a up hill battle with the NY salt and rust.
