    I had mine extended with spacers and snubbers, not quite as far as yours, a few years back and smacked it on a ledge. Bent the mount (not a big deal), but also dented in the tailgate a bit (sucks). I would recommend getting it as close to the tailgate as possible.

    Please keep me in the loop. I have an 8 month old at home and a wife with a fractured kneecap, so the likelihood of getting out of the house for an entire day is low, but I would like to be there if I can!

    I agree. While you have everything out, put in some heat shield. I also did mass backed carpet for sound dampening.
