    42RLE Port Plug Popped Out

Shifts fine, no more leaks. However, I've only put a couple thousand miles on it. On odd thing I noticed, the transmission cannot be shifted into the low gears manually. In other words, you can put it in P R N D but not 2 1.

2006 4.0 has no crank, no start, and no power to starter

Any luck on this? I'm having a similar problem.

    42RLE Port Plug Popped Out

Got the plug in. I didn't add any rtv. The green substance that was applied at the factory seems like some kind of sealant. Easy install; just tapped it in with a hammer. I drove it to a restaurant about 3 miles from my house and it held up fine. Unfortunately, when I got out of the...

    42RLE Port Plug Popped Out

The plug was $2.69. With shipping and tax, $7.64. If you include the transmission fluid it leaked all over the road before I discovered the problem, add $40. And let's not forget the fact I had to walk a mile to the store and get more fluid so I could get it home. And just for giggles, let's...

    42RLE Port Plug Popped Out

They do have a warranty. And I completely agree they should do SOMETHING. However, summer is here and my "To do" list is gigantic and growing (thank you, married life). I just don't have the time to pull the silly thing out and start over. I have an email record of everything. If it shits...

    42RLE Port Plug Popped Out

Definitely no threads in the hole. The Best Buy service tech said to tap the freeze plug in with a hammer. The Mopar OEM plug I ordered is arriving today. I'll let ya know how it goes. The online photo shows some kind of green substance applied to it. Maybe some kind of adhesive? Like a...

    42RLE Port Plug Popped Out

Finally got BestBuy Transmission to call me back. I will summarize below: Their assessment: "Oh yeah, looks like that plug popped out." Their solution: "You should plug that." My response: "With what?" Them: "Maybe go to O'Reilly's and get a freeze plug." Me: "What size should I...

    42RLE Port Plug Popped Out

My sad saga continues. BestBuy Transmission is NOT impressing me. Their service department WILL NOT answer the phone or return my calls. I filed a service request on their website and received a bunch of 1 line emails asking me for more pics. Thus far, I'd say DO NOT deal with BestBuy...

Holy crap! They make a pink one too. Is nothing sacred? It's still better than ANYTHING Fab Fours makes.

    42RLE Port Plug Popped Out

Ah-ha! I found it on moparpartsgiant.com. Interestingly, I can't find it anywhere if I specify a 2004 Wrangler. It pops up under a 2008 Wrangler.

    42RLE Port Plug Popped Out

I found a parts diagram for the 42RLE and it shows the plug. Looks like a permanent, factory installed plug. It doesn't look like vehicles uses it for anything and it definitely shouldn't have popped out. My main concern is how I can properly plug it at this point. Its not a threaded hole...

    42RLE Port Plug Popped Out

After installing my new BestBuy 42RLE in my 2004 LJ 4.0, it began leaking as soon as I put it in gear. It is leaking from a port at the top rear of the passenger side. Photos I took after receiving the BestBuy 42RLE show this port was plugged before installation. The plug has popped out. 1...

Jeep Wrangler TJ Torque Specs (1997-2006)

What are the torque spec for the bolts (4) connecting the 42RLE bell housing to the engine block? There are two large bolts on either side of the bell housing and 2 smaller (external torx) bolts at the top. This is for a 2004 with a 4.0. The factory service manual just says "tighten"...

    Bilstein 5100s ride rough

I used to work at the factory in West Chicago, IL where these were made. Someone at the factory accidently poured an entire 5 gallon bucket of the Boo-Berry flavoring concentrate down a storm drain. The contents ended up in the nearest stream and made the entire neighborhood smell like...
