What did you do to your other vehicle today?

Found out late last week the JKU is totaled. Sort stinks overall was 2015 Rubicon Hardrock with 51K miles on it. Was good shape. I managed to let the insurance company let me remove the winch and skid plates. I show up at the auto body shop to get personal belongings out and remove the...

What did you do to your other vehicle today?

Not today, but Tuesday. Our daughter rear/ended a car that just slammed on their brakes. The cops said if it wasn’t for the dash cam they would have put her down at fault. Also insurance saw the dash cam video and also said not her fault. She swerved in hopes to avoid it. Shoved the axle...

    Technology that hasn't evolved

Something we all are familiar with, the u-joint. While it has been refined, the basic principle is the same.

What did you do to your TJ today?

Dropped the rear driveshaft and took Ruby for a spin, didn’t feel any vibration. Hoping one of the kids will drop it off tomorrow to get it balanced so I can reinstall it next weekend.

What did you do to your TJ today?

Drove Ruby to work today. On my test drive Saturday thought everything seemed fine, but I am thinking there is a vibration now. Since the front driveshaft was balanced I’ll get the rear balanced. I suspect once the rear driveshaft is out i can go 65-70 in 4WD high with just the front...

What did you do to your TJ today?

Put the front driveshaft back in. For those that saw my other post about two weeks ago ended up taking the DS down to get it looked at and balanced. I had everything done correctly. The guy at shop told me he noticed the casting is off center. In the picture (circled in red) you can see that...

Should you get a heavy duty fan clutch?

I have the 2771 and it seems to work well. It is a little loud.

What did you do to your TJ today?

Did it go out completely? Mine has been going on and off for a while now. Were the links broken or was it bases on experience you knew that was the problem?

Is this a double cardan u-joint?

Agreed, just did this. Actually still in the middle of doing it., I can’t image trying to drop the DS without removing the skid. I think it can be done, but it seems like it would be tedious. I supposed a CA jeep doesn’t have near the rust issues KY may have. I second Denny’s, they have...

What did you do to your TJ today?

Glad you are okay. Back around 94 I was driving home in a YJ in a rainstorm on the freeway, I happened to slow down but hydroplaned, water covered the windshield, I felt the Jeep bounce by the time everyone settled I was in grass area between the two directions of the freeway like in a valley...

    Jeep Wrangler TJ U-Joint Replacement

Maybe being in Kentucky might be worse than California. Was easy to drop and was pretty clean. The one issue is one of the studs for the tranny mount was slightly damaged but was able to remove the nut and reinstall it without issue. I wish that design was different somehow. Get a damaged...

What did you do to your TJ today?

It has crossed my mind to do that. Except I am still wondering why the DS is not centered on the h-yoke. Seems like it should be centered. If it was I probably would grind a little off and think it was that way before I changed the parts and was due to the suspension lift.

What did you do to your TJ today?

I thought it looked a little different from checking out the thread you posted. I am curious how much room you end up with in the area circled in red when it was installed. If the DS is rotated down (to the left in the picture) seems like the gap would be smaller as the joint moves towards...

What did you do to your TJ today?

Decided to drop the DS again. @Zorba was right probably took 20 minutes to get everything out. All the bushing were installed correctly. Decided to remove the u-joint at the centering ball assembly to see if it was an issue. Nope all correct. So rotated the H-yoke 180 degrees to see if the...

    Shout out to Denny’s Driveshaft

He definitely saw that through. I felt for him. It’s not the first time, but might be the first time what seems like this much effort involved. Plus to mention not 💯 sure it’s the issue, but it makes sense as it looks like it may be off center. Can’t believe a little bushing would make...
