What did you do to / in your garage / shop today?

I like that Miller cover. I only have an old but clean doggie blankie.

    Fuel Transfer Pump Recommendations

I've got 2 of those HF pumps. One for gas and the other for diesel. They do work great and only takes 3-4 minutes to empty a 5 gal. can. But my only gripe is that pick-up pipe is not long enough to reach down to the bottom of a 6 gal. can. I might buy another and take it apart and see if I could...

    Fire Extinguisher Rabbit Hole

Complexity introduces failure. Just get a hand held Halon extinguisher. If you need it, pull the pin.

The decline of restaurants and eating out

Years ago before my Mom passed, she wanted us to take her down to Orange County, CA. so she could go Karaoke bar hopping with her Japanese friends. We then piled into a limo (nice to be with her rich friends) and we ended up at a fancy Sushi Bar. While they were jiving in Japanese (I only know a...

The decline of restaurants and eating out

^ Yes, I'd like a Chili Verde plate with extra flour tortillas and a Root Beer please. And probably a few extra napkins for my forehead. The silver ware goes unused because that's what the tortillas are for.

    Brightest non-LED headlights

As stated, the beam pattern. The fluting or more simply, the grooves that are cut into the inside of the lens look like the same as any standard halogen sealed beam headlight. And that made the light scatter above the hot spot on the road surface. And the high beams didn't really reach out that...

    Brightest non-LED headlights

Where to find Cibie` Z-beams? My Wife is a terrific Ebay shopper. She found and watched several listings back in 2004 and finally settled with the ones I have on my TJ, and yes they are a little over 20 years old now. I've been through several bulb changes, as expected. The ones that I had on...

    Trailer Winch - Loading TJ

Or source a single J-hook from a tow truck, positioned at the center of the axle. Easy on, easy off, if you hook it from the bottom (hook side up). Then 'whip' cable/rope to free the hook.

    2025 Recap

Novak, I'd be interested in a short-shifter for my NV3550. I have a B&M SS in my other TJ but those are way too spendy now. Edit. Nothing on their web page. But also not interested in changing out a good trans either.

How many of you have / use wheel chocks?

Beautiful truck and a scenic background. I've probably graded the shoulders and patched those roads when I was working for a living. I used to live about 2 miles west of Strawberry Peak overlooking the IE.

I'd check those first with a multi-meter before anything else. And then go from there.

    Rear drum brake question

I was taught by my Dad while working on VW's as a kid, that I tighten the adjusters so tight that the drum could not rotate (simulating a lockup skid) and back it off a bit so the drum rotates freely but that a very slight rub is ok. He had a piece of 1" square bar about 3' long and wrapped...

    High current cable replacements

I sourced my 2 ga. wire and terminals from a local heavy duty truck parts retailer. I already had a crimper, shrink tube and Mil-Spec terminal clamps. It's been at least 15 years ago and no signs of corrosion. And I did use terminal grease prior to crimping and shrink tubing.

That's good on you to help him out. Not a good thing but easy money I suppose... And hopefully it's covered by a decent tarp.

How many of you have / use wheel chocks?

My Dad made me use chock blocks when I was a kid, so as an adult working around parked 10-wheel dump trucks, it was easy to follow the rules. In my own shop, I have a bunch of the rubber ones from HF plus an assortment 4x4 wood chocks. Out in my flat backyard, I use those plastic ones from...
