Texas Roll Call

We have maps in the county that show were the flood plains are at in the neighborhood. My house is on top of a higher elevation.

So if you live in the flood plains, you can't even get flood insurance at all?

I learned the other day that Houston has no zoning laws. It's awesome in its own way and is the reason the city is so large. You want to buy property, build a neighborhood, and build a Walmart? Go for it. The only thing that can stop you is a vote at city council. Might be the reason for the awful drainage system too. My buddy in Dayton has had 40 inches of rain since this all started. He has posted an update on his rain gage every hour. Luckily he isn't flooded in. He said his parents laundry room and spare bedroom was holding 2 inches of water because it was a sealed in garage/add on to the house. Said the rest of the house was fine though. They are very fortunate because from what I've seen Dayton is getting hit the hardest.

That's amazing... 40 inches of rain and he's not flooded in! That's some luck for sure.

As far as Houston's drainage system...

Name one city where you could dump 50" of rain on and not have a catastrophe?

Houston has many problems, but with a growing population of by some estimates as high as 6.5 million in Harris county, you're bound to have some problems.

This storm is probably the worst in our history.

Any pictures or video of Jeeps fighting the weather?
I pulled out my phone to take some pictures and dropped it into 8" of water that was my driveway. I snagged it pretty quickly, but had to plug it to the charger in the TJ and run Google maps to heat it up for 7 hours to dry it out.

Your right tman. Most people just need to have someone to blame and cant accept the fact that sometimes bad things happen and its no ones fault at all.

Exactly. It is really just a big mess no matter what, unfortunately.

Has anyone heard from @Cisco Kid?

We are good to go here. This morning the water was 2" below our concrete porch and went all the way to the house on the other side of the street. We are lucky as our electric is still on. The houses across the street have none. We have been charging cell phones for our neighbors since Friday. The storm has passed South of us in the gulf and is heading toward the Cameron La area. Winds are only 40-45 MPH. Heavy rain has slacked off today. Water in the street reached the side step on the LJ so I moved it into the driveway.
Thanks for the concern, Harvey, please go away. We have Cabin fever as do our cats!
