Car pics too cool not to share

Social media is full of Chinese propaganda

Over the weekend, BYD announced on a RedNote livestream that the U9 Xtreme version has now broken the overall production car top speed record, clocking in at 496.22 km/h (308.37 mph). The car had just set the EV top speed record of 472.41 km/h a few weeks ago. In addition, in its first test at the Nürburgring, it set the EV lap record at 6:59.157. BYD also implied that the top speed was limited by the 500 km/h-rated tires, as the car was still accelerating at the recorded speed. And the lap time was also just the start, with the car electronically limited to 350 km/h.

China’s $250k EV Just Broke the World Speed Record (308 MPH!)

Looks like they ripped off some of the design cues on it (shocker!). Honestly, I don't really give a shit though because not only could I not drive it, I can't take it seriously because the brand name is "Yangwang". Makes me think of this...

2: Land speed record cars have gone well over twice the speed .

But those have specialty tires, usually built for aircraft, and some are even solid. The tires on these hyper cars look to be street/comp type tires, something like a Michelin Cup tire.

BTW, I just fell into a rabbit hole, and it's your fault. :sneaky: I'm looking through a land speed forum, and I need to be "working".

And I thought KO2s had gotten expensive...

Not production cars though

As of now BYD has built 1 car and are allowing orders to be taken for 30 cars globally per year.

Which is exactly the same number of production as the Thrust SSC Land speed record car , which currently is 455.035 miles an hour faster .

Of course this could change if the Chi - Com government finds it to it's advantage . To act like this is an actual company that is developing tech. to automotive public doesn't show the whole story . Never trust Communists , no matter how good the product appears .

Of that model yes but BYD sells some cars

BYD sold-record breaking 4.3 million vehicles globally in 2024, a 41% increase from 2023

The 'leaper' is a cat from the Americas . . . third largest species in the world, likes water, and was found as far north as Texas and Arizona.
Leaper/Leopard ??

Sadly, it's gone from "leaper" to "leper" (as in, no one wants to touch one...) :(

It's funny that you would say that, because I was just thinking about that very thing last night, after we found out about the accident. In as much as I'd like to have some version of a "sports car", it could be detrimental to my health, especially if the wife and I ever do relocate to Idaho or Montana. We saw three Bighorn sheep along the road only about fifteen miles from our destination in Montana. Prior to that sighting, the only ones I'd seen were of this variety...;)

Since you brought up Big Horn Sheep, how about a little Ram on ram irony

A local managed to do this the same year that she drew a Big Horn Ram hunting tag (which is a once in a lifetime draw). She ended up with 2 mountable ram heads that year.
