Just bought it today. Drove it home, 4 hours and it was flawless. If you would've said this thing is brand new I would've believe you. It is clean. No rust. handles great. I didn't even want to drive it home because of the miles I'd put on. I'm stoked. Brings back high school memories. Way better than my jk or gladiator.

2006 Jeep Wrangler X Sport Utility 2D
73,755 miles when I test drove it.
4.0L 6-Cylinder 6 speed.
Has the double DIN upgrade already.

Only thing I'm not a huge fan of is the rack. We don't know if we want to sell it or store it. Opinons are appreciated.

One question for you. It's got the decals on the hood "Black Bear Edition" I've never heard of a black bear edition only Gold Eagle and 65th anniversary. Can Anyone confirm.

Great looking Jeep, yellow jeeps are awesome.

The rack, you asked for opinions. I’m sure they come in handy but just aren’t my thing. Seems like it would get in the way of folding the soft top down. I don’t think I’d would want to store a lot of items up there either. There has been a few times overhead clearance has been an issue.

Congratulations! Good looking TJ! I'm also not a fan of the racks, but others love them. Jeep's volunteer the real estate on the hood sides so well to decals you get all sorts of editions. I'll probably add some to mine eventually too if I decide on what I'd like.

Do you have plans for it, or just drive it and enjoy it?

Racks look terrible, they can be inconvenient for soft top life, and they add weight. Unless you need a rack I say ditch that thing.

I’ve seen them listed for next to nothing on Craigslist.

Not a fan myself...
  • Hinders soft top operation
  • May/may not impact garage access
  • How much can it really carry?
  • Any significant weight up top impacts stability on a short wheelbase vehicle like our TJs
  • Added wind resistance (especially when loaded) on an already aerodynamically challenged vehicle
  • Aesthetics

Thanks for the chats. I Figured it was an aftermarket thing but wanted to make sure it was some dealer special from 20 years ago. My JK was named Chingadera. 🤣. The rack has already been removed. It will be stored unless we need it for a trip. Seller also threw in a hitch cargo rack so that should be enough. You cannot take the soft top off without removing the middle part so it had to go.
@bbaldwin237 Planning to keep it as is really. Just a fun vehicle to drive, maybe some light off roading. I want to get dash cams, have them in my car and on my motorcycles. They really save your ass. I will probable get a metal "tuffy box" like my last tj had. Then maybe a bette phone mount (pro clip+ quadlock) Other than that leaving it alone. It's in great shape.
@TheBoogieman I already have a rack at home that I love and get to play with often 😜.

Just be aware your 06 has a few quirks:

The PCM is going to fail at some point and the only fix is a rehosted one from Wranglerfix for the 05 and 06s.

The 05, 06 OPDA is know to seize up which can result in cam gear damage, loss of oil pressure. The fix is an aftermarket OPDA from Crown or Dorman. If you hear a laughing monkey sound, it's on the way out.
