MRE's & the C rations came with instant coffee packets.. 1AM on a 8-12 hour guard shift and taking a hit of instant coffee was good for a few more hours without falling asleep... The things we used to do trying to stay awake or cheat the system...

Used to put 1/2 a shot of whiskey on our Copenhagen so when you took a pinch of it out in the field you'd get a rush from the whiskey...

A hit??? I'm guessing that doesn't mean drinking a cup quickly

Dipping Copenhagen isn't/wasn't bad... Just not good for your teeth/gums.
