Shine Runner? Blown 312 V-8. 55 or 57? Did they have Paxton or similar superchargers back then?

Anyone know the purpose of the checkered V-belts?
My money's on 1957. I believe Paxton superchargers existed before WW2, though not sure if many were installed as factory. No idea on the belts..

I know they used some sort of supercharger on aircraft but no clue when they started placing them on autos.
There were a number of WW2 aircraft that used supercharging, both allied and axis.

Automotive superchargers have been out there at least since the '20s, but they didn't become "popular" until post WWII. In the mid-late '50s into the early '60s Studebaker/Packard had factory supercharged cars, and I know Ford had some offerings too.

And even this crazy bastard that came about in the late '50s IIRC. Latham Axial Flow supercharger. It works and sounds like a jet engine.
