Car pics too cool not to share

I've never ridden in one, but I've wanted one for a while now. I imagine they ride like an older 1-ton dually. It'd probably be a pretty kick ass truck with a V8 swap, maybe a 454.

Worse than a dually 1ton....

They were some kickass trucks for what they were but no speed demon for sure with the stock engine. Yes doing a engine swap makes them way better & tons of fun. They are like most vehicles that I have a desire for and have gone up in price to the point where they are ridicules now. They were phasing them out of the Army when I'd joined in 1978 but I got to drive/ride in a few before they'd all gone away.

I've ridden in a couple of old duces, are they that bad?

How much are they asking for them now? I looked probably 10 years ago, and I think a nice running truck was in the $5,000 range.

Yep, similar to an old duce... Just let some air out of the tires,,,

Up here in the PNW they are $10K if in half decent shape and go up from there. I've seen some nicely done swaps where they wanted $20K+ for them.
Gone are the days where you'd find them for $2500. And a $5K one here would be a rust bucket and need TONS of work.

@Squatch how's the new Ford, did you get it home yet? 🤔

Probably not going to happen. I've been out working on another project the past couple of days, and giving it some serious thought. The reality is that as much as I like a nice looking ride, I think I enjoy working on them more. I like taking something that has no business ever seeing the road again and working toward making it mobile once more. It seems like that's the only time when I'm truly content. Ten grand may not finish my hardtop, but it'll go a long way towards getting it close to something I'd enjoy driving. I know it may seem bass-ackwards to some, but I really do prefer a shitter car over a shiny one.

You may be surprised to know that I've never partaken in it. Not so much as a single hit. Just wasn't my thing. I drank a little (damn little), but that was it. I actually was a kid who focused on school and maintaining good grades...until I started dating. Girls and cars, cars and girls. That's where my focus ultimately went. Between the two, I never had any interest, time, or money for anything else. Still rarely drink, even now. My son, who's now 32, has never done any form of drugs or alcohol. I can't even get him to take a sip. Just not interested. He's more into computers and building his savings account. (y)

Good for him and good for you!

I've never done drugs or alcohol either. Didn't, and doesn't, make any sense. I still have much of the electronic test equipment I purchased as a teen - how many others can say they still have "whatever" they bought back then?

Thanks, man. I do appreciate that.

I was a good kid, but I was focused on anything but school. School wise, I did what was needed and nothing more, generally maintaining a low "B" grade.
I could say much the same - if you took my average. I generally got B+ or A in English (except for sophomore comp, the teacher was an absolute BITCH, hated her and her class), A in Electronics, Bs in most other things, C and D in math, D- in penmanship.

Me, but I'm half retarded. 🤪

Truly, I buy durable goods, tools/vehicles/etc., and I'll go out of my way to figure out what I think is the best for my situation. I tend to follow the buy-once-cry-once philosophy. Like yourself, I know that's considered "weird" in our consumer-culture. My dad is the opposite, he buys purely on convenience with little regard given to durability.

Have I mentioned that in my ~20 years of owning vehicles, I've only sold one so far. See, that's my retarded half making decisions. :sneaky:

^^^This^^^ A thousand times, this!

Okay then, how is your TJ coming along?

The tornado engine was kinda weird , putting a SOHC Hemi head on a under square tractor motor really doesn't make sense.
The overhead cam and hemi head potentially allow high Revs , but this was installed on an engine that hated to rev over 3500 r.p.m.
The front cover /mount leaked oil like crazy , and a buddy mechanic who was in Nam told me the engine ate cams due to a lack of oiling.
But hey , at 575 lbs. it weighed what a 350 SBC weighs that has twice the h.p. and almost twice the torque.
