New Wizard / BMB tail lights?

I don’t get why one would go through the trouble of getting slimmer tail lights (besides looks) and keep the stock license plate holder. I’ve smashed the stock one twice (which dented the tub corner when it folded over) and never touched the tail lights. 🤷‍♂️

Edit: no criticism of the product here, I'm on board. Just thinking out loud.

What is the alternative? I personally think the plate mounted to the tub and hammered to fit the tub curve looks like shit and I’m surprised that’s not an issue with law enforcement either.

Only other solution is move it to the spare which has its own pros and cons.

Sounds like you need corner armor.......................or driving lessons.

I would classify that as moving to the spare. Just with no spare. Which is fine, just not my favorite look and I don’t like relocating the wiring out there. I would say for that amount of damage done you probably need corner armor. But anyways….yes the stock location is not perfect either.

To stay legal? :) The factory plate is angled and located in a very specific way intentionally (to adhere to the laws from the time).

Yeah, but lest we forget, you think a malfunctioning piece of crap being sold as a flasher also works perfectly, so there is that.

For them that pay attention, the reason I never designed an other than stock plate carrier for the rear is they are DOT mandated to hold the plate at that angle. I have no idea if anyone has ever been in trouble for it, I just don't want to find out the hard way. Ya'll do whatever, I won't sell you something that far out of compliance.

And I'm with you 100% on how the curved plates look beat around the corner of the tub. Not my thing at all.

Exactly…I think it’s 10°? I don’t recall but it’s there for a reason. I have to imagine it’s so that the light hits the plate. I don’t really know but I don’t like to not have the angle when factory has the angle.

I don’t know how the curved plate thing doesn’t cause more problems than it does. In Texas with a 7-digit plate, you pretty much can’t see the first digit at all. Add to that that most people doing that also use those terrible light bolts that provide 0 light where it matters. I’ve only seen one Jeep out in the wild with the plate installed like that though so I guess it’s not that common of a practice as the forum makes it seem.

I haven't seen that here in Florida - but the Popo will pull you over for something like that sooner or later. They pulled me over a couple of months ago because the license lites were both burned out on the old MBZ. I was actually glad they did, as I had no idea, even if it did scare the crap outta me at first. Then the deputy and I got into a friendly discussion about guns - Goddess I love this state!

They do it for several reasons. Toll road cameras, and so the light from headlights behind you isn't reflected back into the eyes of the driver.

Makes sense. It’s funny we discuss this, I meant to add to my other post that we had a 2015 Silverado 2500 and from the factory the rear plate has a negative tilt to it. Very odd and I don’t think it’s correct. Somehow they got away with it though.

This is probably illegal but here in Washington state I bent the plate around the back of the tub and never had issues

I've done every position under the sun, and I ended up here for now. NO idea if it means the angle of requirement, but I got a ticket on Nov 2 by a camera that has my license plate in clear view, so I think they can see it. I got the pics and a video to prove it. Who was driving it? I have no idea. 🙂

Look how suck this looks at night though compared to Blaine’s. 🤣 (See Boogs pics ⬆️ )

Did you add the license plate light after the first pic? Because I’m not seeing the light.
